There's usually a specific more behind this one: more money, more followers, more hours in the day, a bigger version of something you already have. Before chasing it any further, it's worth asking what you actually think it will change. Not whether you'll get it, but what you expect to feel different once you do.
Will this actually make me happier, or just different for a while? Why did the last more I got stop counting almost as soon as I had it? Is wanting more just how I'm built, or a habit I picked up somewhere along the way? What would be enough, and would I recognize it if I already had it?
Ask most people what more would do for them and they can describe the money, the title, the follower count, in detail. Ask what changes on the inside once they have it and the description gets vague fast.
There was a more you wanted five years ago. You may have gotten some of it by now. Worth checking whether it did what you thought it would, or whether it just got replaced by the next more before you had time to notice.
The body treats not-enough like an emergency, a low hum of urgency that more is supposed to switch off. It rarely does for long. It settles for a while and then finds a new target.
Sometimes more is really about proof: proof you're capable, proof you're not who someone once said you were, proof it's over. Worth asking who's actually meant to see that proof, and whether they're even watching.
There's a version of you that already has enough of at least one thing. Notice what it's like to sit in that, briefly, before the next more shows up to interrupt it.
I wrote more about the specific trap of chasing outcomes in On the pursuit of happiness, success and desires, and about what happens when you stop treating yourself as something to keep improving in You're not a project..
If you noticed what your specific more actually is while reading this, my door is open. Send it my way, private, under your name, or anonymous, whichever feels right to you.
